  • 6 slices stale bread
  • 2 cups milk
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 bunch Swiss chard
  • 1 medium onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 cup Gruyere cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, and heavy cream.
  3. Add salt, pepper, and nutmeg to the mixture and combine well.
  4. In a separate skillet, sauté diced onion and minced garlic until softened.
  5. Stir in the chopped Swiss chard and cook until wilted.
  6. Layer the stale bread in a greased baking dish.
  7. Pour half of the egg mixture over the bread.
  8. Add the Swiss chard mixture and sprinkle half of the Gruyere cheese over the top.
  9. Continue layering with the remaining bread, egg mixture, and Gruyere cheese.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until set and golden on top.
