Dough Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water about 110°F
  • 2 tablespoons sugar for activating yeast
  • 1 packet active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 large egg for egg wash

Method
 

Making the Dough
  1. In a mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, melted butter, and salt to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until doubled in size.
Shaping and Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 4 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a ball.
  3. Place the dough balls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Flatten slightly.
  4. Cover and let them rise for another 30 minutes.
  5. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a shiny finish.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
  7. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack.
